Turn an AllTrails activity into a trip film

A hike or a trail run you recorded with AllTrails can become a short film of the trail, the hiker walking it on a real map. AllTrails’ website downloads the recording as a GPX, which is the file to bring here.

Updated

Export the track

  1. Sign in at alltrails.com on a computer and open the activity you recorded, from your profile.
  2. Open its menu and find the download or export.
  3. Choose GPX, or a GPX track where you are offered a track or a route, and download it.

Menus move. If yours looks different, look for Export GPX or Download GPX.

AllTrails gives a GPX, and that is the file to use.

Make the film

Drop the GPX that AllTrails downloaded on the GPX viewer, and check its distance and climbing against the recording’s page. Press Animate this route, and the hike or trail run opens in the editor as a trip, its vehicle chosen from the pace you recorded. The steps from there are the same for every app: From the track to the film.

Drop the file on the viewer, check it, and press Animate this route. No account, and nothing to install.

Questions

The film shows a runner, not a hiker. Why?

Voyarc picks the vehicle from the track’s speed: a hiker under 7 km/h, a runner up to 15. Open the scene from its sentence in the story and choose the hiker, the walker or the horse.

Whether the file is uploaded, how several files make one film and how to hide a private start are answered once for every app: questions every app shares.
