Guides
How to get a recorded activity out of the app that holds it and into a film, and what Voyarc does for each kind of trip. Every page ends in the same place: your route on a real map, travelled by its vehicle and saved to your device as an MP4.
From an app to a film
Five services, five exports: the menu to open, the file it gives, and what to do with it next.
- Strava Export GPX from the activity’s menu on the website, then animate it.
- Garmin Connect Export to GPX or TCX from the activity page, then animate it.
- Komoot Download a tour as a GPX file from Komoot’s website, then animate it.
- Ride with GPS Export a trip or a route as a GPX track, or as TCX or KML.
- AllTrails Download a recorded hike as GPX from the website, then animate it.
By trip
What Voyarc does for a road trip, a cycling tour, a sailing trip or a ferry crossing, and a journey by rail.
- Road trips Typed towns routed on real roads, driven by the car you choose.
- Cycling tours Your recorded ride as you rode it, or typed towns on a cycling route.
- Sailing and ferries Crossings on the sea lanes and ferry lines, sailed by the boat you pick.
- Rail journeys The railway between your stations, with the train you pick.

From the track to the film
- Open the GPX viewer and drop the file on it, or choose it. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
- Check the distance and the climbing against what the app showed. Apps count climbing differently, so a small gap is normal.
- Press Animate this route. The track opens in the editor as a trip, its start and its finish as stops and the track as a scene.
- Open the scene from its sentence in the story to change its vehicle, chosen at first from the track’s speed; its light, in the same row, plays it by day or by night.
- Under the trip’s name, the Film length chip leaves the film as long as it needs or makes it Short, and the Sounds chip turns its vehicle sounds on or off.
- Press Export, choose a landscape, square or vertical frame, and press Make the film. It is made in your browser and saved as an MP4.
What the film shows
The route draws itself on a real map while a vehicle travels it, a bike leaning into the bends or a car with its wheels turning, and the start and the finish are named as it reaches them. Each vehicle sounds like itself, from real recordings, and on a Film pass or Pro your own music can play over them. On the free tier the film carries a small Voyarc chip; a Film pass or Pro takes it off and exports up to 4K.
Questions every app shares
Is my track file uploaded anywhere?
No. The GPX viewer reads the file in your browser, and the editor keeps the track’s points on your device. The track’s two ends travel in the trip’s link as stops. Once the trip is open in the app, those two ends, rounded to about a kilometre, are named by the town or suburb they are in; the privacy page says how.
My trip is several files, one a day. Can they be one film?
Yes. Put the files into Merge GPX files in the order you travelled, then press Animate this route: each file becomes a scene of its own, in one film.
My track starts at my front door. Can I hide that?
Turn on Trim the ends when you import the track: the first and last 500 m are dropped before it becomes a scene. Or trim the activity in the app itself before you export it.
