Voyarc

A film of your rail journey

Type the stations and Voyarc runs the train along the railway between them, not along the road beside it. An express, a tram or a steam train with its smoke can take any scene, and the film saves as an MP4.

What Voyarc does for a rail journey

  • The railway, not the road

A rail scene follows the railways of Natural Earth’s world map between your two stations. It is routed in your browser, so the stations are not sent to be routed.

  • Trains that move like trains

Pick a train, an express, a tram or a steam train. Each sways on its rails, and the steam train trails its smoke.

  • A train, then a car

Each scene has its own mode, so the film can take the train out and drive, sail or walk the rest.

  • Night trains

Play a sleeper’s scene by night and it runs on the map’s dark twin, its lights on.

How to start

  • Type the stops

On the home page, type the journey the way you would say it, “Paris to Milan by train, Venice”, and press Enter.

  • Or import a track

Press Import a track and choose a GPX your phone recorded on board. A fast track starts as a car: switch the scene to Rail and pick the train, and the line stays your track.

Type your first stop, or drop a track file on the home page. No account, and nothing to install.

Questions

Will it follow the exact line I took?

It follows the main lines on Natural Earth’s world map, which leaves out many branches. A station more than 50 km from any railway, or a pair with no line between them, is drawn as a curve instead, and its scene in the story says so.

Can a scene be a sleeper train?

Yes: play its scene by night and it runs on the dark map, so an overnight journey looks like one.

How do I get my own line exactly?

Import a track recorded on board, then switch its scene to Rail: the train runs your track, and the GPX viewer shows it before you start.
