Voyarc

A film of your sailing trip or ferry crossing

Name the ports and Voyarc sails between them on the ferry’s own line where one runs, or on the sea lanes where none does. The ferry, the sailboat or the cruise ship heaves and sways on the water as it goes, and the film saves as an MP4.

What Voyarc does for a sailing trip

  • Ferry lines and sea lanes

A ferry scene takes a ferry’s line from OpenStreetMap when one is near both ports, and the sea lanes otherwise, so an open-water crossing works too. It is routed in your browser.

  • The boat for the crossing

Pick a ferry, a sailboat, a cruise ship, a speedboat or a kayak. Each heaves and sways on the water as it goes.

  • Night crossings

Play the overnight boat’s scene by night and it sails on the map’s dark twin, its lights on.

  • The sound of the water

Each boat sounds like itself, from real recordings: a ferry’s engine and its horn as it leaves, the water along a sailboat, a kayak’s strokes.

How to start

  • Type the stops

On the home page, type the crossing the way you would say it, “Venice to Split by ferry”, and press Enter. Mix it with the drive or the train that brought you to the port.

  • Or import a track

Press Import a track and choose a GPX from a chartplotter or a phone. Its first vehicle is picked from its speed, as if on land: switch the scene to Ferry and pick the sailboat, and the line stays your track.

Type your first stop, or drop a track file on the home page. No account, and nothing to install.

Questions

What if no ferry runs where I sailed?

The scene keeps to the sea lanes, which cover the open sea as well as the coasts, and a short crossing may sail straight across. To draw your own course, import its track.

Does it know about tides or the wind?

No. The route is drawn on lanes and lines, not planned for conditions, and Voyarc is not a navigation tool.

Can the trip go on by land after the boat?

Yes. Every scene has its own mode, so the film can drive to the port, sail across and take the train on the far side.
