Voyarc

Turn a GPX file into a video

Drop a GPX file from Strava, Garmin, Komoot or Ride with GPS on the home page and Voyarc plays the track on a real map, every bend as you recorded it. Its start and its finish become stops named by their town, and Make the film saves it to your device as an MP4.

What we read from the file

  • The track

The track’s points, or a route’s points when the file has no track. Several tracks or segments in one file run on as one line, in the file’s order.

  • Height and time

Each point’s height and time, when the file has them. The times give the speed, and the vehicle is chosen from it: a walker, a bike, a car, a train or a plane.

  • Waypoints

Not read: a waypoint is a place, not part of the line. Type the places you want named as stops of their own.

  • Other files

TCX, KML, KMZ and GeoJSON are read the same way. A FIT file is not, so export a GPX instead.

One file or several

One file plays as one leg. We do not cut a long file into days, so a trip recorded as one activity plays as one leg. A trip recorded one file a day goes into Merge GPX files in the order you travelled, and each file becomes a leg of its own in one film. Between two tracks you can type a leg, a ferry or a train, routed like any typed leg.

Tools for the file first

Our track tools read the file in your browser and upload nothing. The GPX viewer checks a track’s distance and climbing; KML to GPX, TCX to GPX and GeoJSON to GPX convert; Reverse a GPX turns a track round and Simplify a GPX thins it.

Get the file out of your app

Each app keeps its export in its own menu, and each has a guide with the menu to open and the file it gives: Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot, Ride with GPS and AllTrails.

Questions

Is my GPX file uploaded?

No. The file is read in your browser and its points stay on your device. Its two ends, rounded to about a kilometre, are looked up to name the town each is in, and travel in the trip’s link as stops; the privacy page says how.

Why did my track start as a walk?

A file with no times has no speed, so we judge the way you travelled by its length, and a short one starts on foot. Open the leg in the story and pick the bike, the car or the train.

Can I use a FIT file?

No, so export a GPX instead. Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot and Ride with GPS all give one, and the guides show the menu in each.
